What we found
The owner wanted natural stone pavers laid properly. The decision point was the base. Most “paver” failures we are called to fix are actually base failures — pavers laid on insufficient or improperly compacted base will heave and shift within a year or two.
The Work
Excavate to the appropriate depth for the application. Install crushed-stone base, compacted in lifts to spec. Set the pavers to plan, working from a fixed edge. Fill joints with polymeric sand that locks the pavers together while remaining permeable to drainage. Install edge restraints to prevent lateral movement over time.
The result
A finished installation that should remain flat and stable for the long haul. The base — the part nobody sees — is what determines whether this work is still good in 15 years. We did the base correctly.
